Silenced is a ransomware that was discovered by Jack.

Silenced is distributed through spam campaigns, fake software updaters, untrustworthy file and software download sources, trojans and unofficial software activation ('cracking') tools.

Silenced is designed to encrypt data and rename all locked files. It adds the ".try" extension to their filenames, for example, it renames a file named "1.jpg" to "1.jpg.try" and so on. In order to recover their files victims must buy a decryption tool from cyber criminals who designed the Silenced ransomware. In other words, victims are forced to pay a ransom. Silenced changes victim's desktop wallpaper, the image contains instructions on how to pay a ransom.

As stated in the text on the changed wallpaper, Silenced encrypts all personal files. In order to get a decryption tool it is required to pay a ransom of 0.05 BTC (Bitcoin), it must be paid by transferring cryptocurrency to the provided BTC wallet address. Victims can contact Silenced developers by writing them an email to
